Yeh LOL China ain’t on that — how odd. ;) According to the Reporters-Without-Borders Annual Worldwide Press Freedom Index for 2005, which I incidentally read a couple of days ago, it could‘ve been. (It is strange that the two come up with different results, then again they probably use different methods as RWB indexes the most freedom and CPJ the most censoring.)
Anyway, if you compare the RWB report to the same report for 2004, you’ll probably note that the US has dropped from the 22nd to the 44th position in that index. Wow.
Incidentally, The Netherlands is among the countries with apparently the most press freedom. (Repression costs, you know — it’s cheaper to tell the truth hehe.)
It’s good to see an increase on the number 1 spot there though compared to earlier years, but I guess that, sadly, it’ll take some serious changes before the US gets in the top 10 there. I’m rooting for y’all though. ;)
what method does the RWB use to determine their ranking? man, the US is falling apart… crappy educational system, crappy trade deficit, crappy healthcare, i’m getting depressed.
How the index is determinded.
Educational- and healthcare systems here ain’t what they’re used to be either. We used to have a pretty ’social’ government for years but that has declined since just before 2000 years. If I hear what kids learn nowadays (or more, the lack) it really amazes me.
They don’t know anything, thanks to some weird changes in education systems, to ‘give the children more independence’. So in stead of making their homework, they were watching TV stuffing their mouths with foodstuffs. (I believe that system might change, though, or already has.)
In a couple of years these kids won’t have any teeth in their mouths because of a crappy health-care system in which a dentist has to opt for the cheapest option when there’s a problem with a tooth: and that’s to pull it.
Yeah the governments really seem to think about all the decisions they make…. I see this dim future, the ’social’ political parties seem to — now why don’t these folk that make the final decision? Because some calculator says the numbers should add up?
*sigh*
Now I’m getting depressed too.
