Whistling Dixie Chicks
Up until March 2003, I had never listened to The Dixie Chicks beyond catching them in passing while flipping channels or stations. Their passionate stance against the war in Iraq and George Bush grabbed my attention, and eventually changed my attitude towards their approach to songwriting.
From Steve Gilliard at The News Blog:

The Dixie Chicks, after being attacked so harshly in 2003, simply said fuck it, fuck Toby Keith and the rest of these assholes. We have more fans than this, we can reach a wider audience than this and that’s where we’re going. They aren’t going to cut their hair and sing about longing for women, but they’re going to pop music and change their career.

I’m not a pop music fan per se, but this tune, “I’m Not Ready To Make Nice,” has the kind of raw emotion that I just can’t pass up.
Consider me a convert.

I am a Chicks fan. They’re home girls from Dallas and they play their own instruments on some of the best county I’ve heard.
I agreed with Maines way back when shae said in London she was ashamed of the president, but mainstream Country fans at that point were of such a mond that not to know a backlash was coming.
Now 3 years later thier missle at all the critics is an adult contemporary, glossy release. The heat of in the lyrics but the music bores me.
Didn’t stop me from laying down money to see them at MSG, though.
I don’t understand why a lot of country music fans are so upset with the dixie chicks…they (country music fan/radio) showed where their loyalties were three years ago…to all angry country fans/radio stations…riddle me this…why do you care?
If you don’t get it…move on…not all music is meant for everybody…that’s why there are different genres…maybe you can find one that is for you…
yep, i’m late on the scene. they hit my radar by standing up in 2003 while our congress was rolling over and once again with this tune… now that my ears are piqued, i’m interested in seeing what else they have coming. hey, you gotta start somewhere, right? not everyone greeted the beatles at the airport.
kelli - you’re right, most fans (country or no) made their minds up a long time ago, but controversy sells magazines so… here we go.
