I’d Rather Have A Gift That Was Made For Me
No, not some crappy ceramic mug, I’m talking about a digital SRL camera with built-in geotagging.
Yeah, I know there’s no such thing… so, HP, Nikon, Sony and the rest of the bunch need to get busy.
Chop, chop!
Here are the only two features that are essential to making me happy:
- Automatic geotagging of digital images for instant goodness when I upload to flickr
- Y-axis geotagging for shots taken above ground (to support hobbyists like Doc)
‘Tis the season in… two months and 8 days. I hope to have this on my wishlist by then.

I have been dreaming of that for so long (I plan on going into it in depth with my own post soon). Sony released a separate GPS unit recently, but it only works with Sony cameras.
Picasa and Flickr now both support geo tagging, so you can actually make use of the data now. The ultimate of course, would be to also store the inclination of the camera itself so you could tell what it was pointing at. And then extrapolate which pictures are pointing at the same landmark just from their metadata. And then develop 3d images of them…
dude, you’re… making me.. drool.
I wonder if this app will help the transition. I’ve not seen it yet but sounds interesting. http://blog.jadedpixel.com/2006/9/22/kakiloc-social-networking-goes-mobile It’s supposed to be an “application that leverages the location based services of your average cell phone.” So with that in mind maybe the camera phones will be the first to do this… is sort of build in already.
