quick thought... October 13th, 2006 - 12:30PM
Dave Winer: “The Amish have the right idea, they demolished the school where last week’s tragedy took place. We should be so smart about what we call Ground Zero. Don’t build a shrine there. Don’t make a point of the place. Leave a hole there. Put in a park, with benches, and swings. Build a minor league baseball stadium. A venue for concerts. Don’t build another skyscraper. Don’t be defiant. Accept the deaths and let’s move on. No more shrines. No more global war on terror. We’re not the most important people on the planet.”

is it Dave Winer or Dave Weener ???? so much alike…
funny. i felt the same a while back… dave’s an acquired taste who, like all of us, can surprise you with a twist of perspective — good or bad.
i happen to agree with the sentiment in this post.
In my opinion the Amish have also taught us a powerful lesson on what it means to be a true Christian. They taught us a sublime lesson when they invited the family of the man responsible for the killings to prayer.
I can only imagine how much more this country would have achieved if we had responded in a similar manner after 9/11.
I imagine how “shocked and awed” the world would have been with such a response coming from mighty America. If anyone reading this comment is of the opinion that this is outlandish, ok, then how about us just going after the very guy and the organization clearly responsible.
No instead we chose to scapegoat a dictator we formerly helped, but had lately fallen out of favor. We then wage a war and unleash a death toll which at the very least results is the equivalent if not more to any he ever perpetrated.
it’s a powerful point, tony. personally speaking, i’m not a practicing christian, so that degree of forgiveness — inviting osama over for prayer — just wouldn’t fly for me.
but focusing on capturing him, wiping out his support system in afghanistan and rebuilding that country to have a functional economic system, well, that would’ve been the perfect scenario as far as i’m concerned.
Inviting Osama would not fly with me either. I hope that one day he will be captured and brought to justice. Actually I was thinking more along the lines of his family and anyone who to any degree may sympathize with him.
Your response of, “wiping out his support system in afghanistan and rebuilding that country to have a functional economic system”, is indeed a perfect scenario, but unlikely given the Bush Administration.
I was thinking. We lost 2,973 lives in attacks of 9/11. The Bush Administration then responded to Osama and the world by waging a War On Terror. In the 5 years that Bush has pursued this war he is now close to matching the 2,973 lives lost with with a similar number of American soldiers, which now stands at 2,763.
The number of injured and maimed soldiers is far greater, improvements in military technology and medicine thankfully result in less deaths but also in more permanently disabled veterans.
Is it any wonder that after 5 years Iraqis just want us to take our War On Terror elsewhere as it has resulted in their suffering a a Death Tally of 600,000 of their people.
would it be any wonder if iraqi’s started their own war on terror as well?
There is absolutely zero credible evidence that those planes were the cause of the collapse of seven steel buildings. There is overwhelming evidence that they were brought down by controlled demolition. Revenge on the patsy will not solve any problems. Only the truth will set us free.
Jeffrey Jones: please take off the tin foil hat and join reality.
Join what reality Bill? The one manufactured by the whitehouse?
Here is a list of 50 Senior Military, Intelligence, and Government Officials that believe there are serious problems with the official version.

Recent polls show that a majority of Americans and most of the world agree with me, so you might consider questioning your reality. All you need to do is let go of your fear and open your mind.
while i’m always open to a different perspective and have watched a few of the conspiracy films myself, a majority of americans do not agree with you, jeffrey. that’s pure hyperbole.
Not my numbers. Just quoting the polls.
-Jeff
According to the new New York Times/CBS News poll, only 16% of Americans think the government is telling the truth about 9/11 and the intelligence prior to the attacks:
“Do you think members of the Bush Administration are telling the truth, are mostly telling the truth but hiding something, or are they mostly lying?
Telling the truth 16%
Hiding something 53%
Mostly lying 28%
Not sure 3%”
Furthermore a recent Zogby poll indicated that 44% of Americans think the Bush administration exploited 9/11 to attack Iraq.
““Do you think members of the Bush Administration are telling the truth, are mostly telling the truth but hiding something, or are they mostly lying?”
if you believe that question equates with “do you believe that the US government had a hand in the tragic events of 9/11?”, you’re out of your mind.
Tom called Dave Winer a weener, Bill said that I wear a tin foil hat. Not very pursuasive or intellectual arguments. Sean, at least, attempts to make an intelligent point before suggesting that I am “out of my mind”.
Unfortunately, Sean left out the context of the question and ignored what I actually said in previous comments.
I believe the poll question equates to “Do you believe that the US government is covering up what really happened on 9/11″. Only 16% think they are telling the truth.
By covering up what really happened, it does put them in the number one spot on my suspect list, however, all I’m asking for is the truth. I want a full investigation. One not under the control of a whitehouse insider. One that does not ignore important evidence.
The only way one can accept the official whitehouse version of the events of 9/11 is to ignore logic and suspend the laws of physics.
thanks for the input, jeffrey.
