I was working in the High Point bureau for the N&R when this happened. I wasn't covering cops, but Cherise Hodges was. She later moved to Charlotte, and I think she's published a novel online. I googled her, but got few leads. High Point was one of the oddest places I've ever lived: Where else would a giantic, armoir with a sock hanging out the drawer overshadow and outsize the historical marker to John Coltrane's birthplace?
